BY PLANE

The closest airport is Lyon – Saint Exupéry (www.lyon.aeroport.fr) with daily flights from several Italian and European towns.

It is connected to Grenoble by buses (Satobus) from and to Grenoble Gare Routière. When travelling from Lyon-Saint Exupéry airport to Grenoble, tickets can be bought either from the shuttle bus counter inside the airport or directly from the driver. A single ticket costs 20 Euros, although it is cheaper to buy a return (30 Euros).
The bus leaves from the bus stand situated between Terminals 1 and 2, Level 1. On its approach to Grenoble, the bus leaves the motorway and turns up Avenue des Martyrs. If asked, the bus driver will stop at the roundabout just after the bridge (Pont d'Oxford), which leads on to Avenue des Martyrs. This stop is within easy walking distance of the ESRF-ILL site. The Satobus leaves for the airport from the central bus station ("gare routière"), which is next to Grenoble train station.

Local buses number 34 and 35 take you from the bus and railway station, direction "Centre Nucléaire", to the ESRF-ILL (the terminus - Polygone scientifique).
Tickets can be purchased singly from the bus driver or in a booklet ("carnet") at tobacconists and at major tram stops.

BY TRAIN

Consult up-to-date timetables and book your tickets on the SNCF (French railway service) or to FS (Italian railway service) web site.

Please note that seat reservations on the T.G.V., Intersity or Eurostar are obligatory, and should be made when you buy your ticket.

Arriving via the motorway from Paris/Lyon, Milan/Geneva, Torino/Lyon, Barcelona/Marseille,
At Grenoble, follow signs for "Gare EUROPOLE" or "Polygone scientifique Louis Néel ".
